COMMITTEE AND MONTHLY MEETINGS
Members are encouraged to participate in committees that focus on various aspects of economic development. Your involvement in these committees provide valuable input and help our programs better serve the needs of our community.
- Industry Development Committee. Members get monthly briefings on the BEDC’s Top Prospects, business development initiatives and local business trends. Meeting Date: First Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the BEDC boardroom.
- Local Industry Visit Committee. As part of the Industry Development Committee, members will have an opportunity to visit and interact with local companies on a quarterly basis.
- Board of Directors Meeting. Monthly meeting open to BEDC members, where BEDC Board of Directors meet to review the on going activities of BEDC. Meeting Date: Third Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the BEDC boardroom.
- Aviation/Aerospace Committee. With an underutilized airport, many available acres for development and an expanding runway, the growing aerospace/aviation industry could become an emerging economic cluster for Brownsville/Matamoros. This industrial cluster presents significant opportunities and growth potential in the areas of passenger service; air cargo; maintenance, repair, overhaul, new product development; and general aviation. This committee will focus its energy on the Brownsville Airport.
- Business Retention Committee. Economic Development 101 states that a community’s best economic development program is one that works with and supports it local industry. The committee will participate in an active call visit program with our local companies in both Brownsville and Matamoros.
- Competition Committee. This committee will develop a report and analysis of Brownsville/Matamoros’ strength and weaknesses and benchmark the community’s competitiveness with selected cities and regions.
- Port Committee. Without a doubt the Port of Brownsville is one of the most assets located along the US/Mexico border and it is in our community. This committee will focus efforts on the workings of the port and how to develop the BEDC’s relationship with Port officials to collectively market this most important asset.
- Retail Committee. Understanding that retail sales tax revenue is the life blood of economic
development and that every city in the Valley is competing for retailers, this committee will
work on issues related to maintaining and developing the city’s retail base with the objective
to make Brownsville a true retail destination. Meeting Date: Second Wednesday of every
month at 8:00 a.m. in the BEDC boardroom.
- Technology Committee. As more companies look at Brownsville for higher technical
operations it is important for the BEDC to understand the technology industry and the issues
related to the recruitment and development of such an industry in Brownsville. This
committee will focus its attention on this industry.
NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

- Industry Appreciation Fiesta. Purpose is to recognize local industry in Brownsville and Matamoros for their contributions to the vitality of the local economy and for making the area a world-class manufacturing center.
- Members Mixer. To be held several times throughout the year.
- Annual Membership Meeting. Held yearly in the month of September.
- Grand Openings, Groundbreakings and Receptions. Ceremonies held for new businesses, expansions, and companies relocating to Brownsville & Matamoros.
- VIP Tours. BEDC coordinates a unique opportunity for members and community leaders to have a first-hand look at the industrial development of Brownsville and Matamoros. This all day tour highlights the dynamic relationship between the two industrial communities.
MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES
BEDC Webpage. The BEDC website, www.bedc.com is the primary communication tool of the BEDC providing key information to members, different audiences in Brownsville, the U.S. and around the world. The website is used to promote the BEDC and the City of Brownsville. It is constantly updated with news, events, promotional and business opportunities for members and companies interested in doing business with the community. All members receive a listing on the BEDC website. The listing includes an e-mail and webpage link to the address of your choice. Members can submit articles to the BEDC on business and upcoming events to be posted on the website. BEDC will feature some of the exceptional articles, which of course, are subject to editorial approval.
Relocation Packets. A BEDC membership list is included in each relocation packet. Relocation packages are sent out throughout the region and county.
Complimentary Set of Membership Labels. At members request BEDC will provide mailing labels listing all member companies.
Conference Room. Members are able to reserve the use of BEDC’s conference room (seats 6-8) and the executive boardroom (seats 45+) for seminars, conferences and meetings at no cost. Subject to availability.

Did You Know e-Flash. A reporting of BEDC monthly activities, articles, announcements, statistical data, etc…
E-Newsletter. A quarterly publication that summarizes economic activities in Brownsville / Matamoros.
Press Releases. Prior to release to the media members will receive information on companies that will be relocating or expanding their facilities to Brownsville & Matamoros.
Membership Announcements. The BEDC receives information on events, and professional seminars, etc.., from the City of Brownsville, UTB/TSC and Maquila Association to name a few. To keep our members informed, the BEDC will send e-mail announcements highlighting these events.
RESOURCE LIBRARY
Market Profile. Demographic information collected and analyzed by the BEDC contains information about the area economy and current statistical data. Free for Members!
Manufacturer’s Directory. Directory contains contact names, phone numbers and addresses to the manufacturing companies in Brownsville & Matamoros. Free for Members!
